Why breathable film sits on the diaper back sheet
The back sheet is the outer layer: it must keep liquid in and let air and vapor move out. A non-breathable poly film traps heat and humidity against the skin, which is precisely the condition behind diaper rash. A microporous breathable film solves this by forming pores small enough to block liquid but large enough to pass water vapor.
XINGQI forms those pores during stretching, after extrusion through a JCTIMES automatic die head. The line equips a SCANTECH automatic thickness gauge that observes product dimensions in real time, and corona treatment raises surface adhesion before printing. The stretching ratio is set per customer requirement, which is how the same base film reaches different breathability and tensile targets.
The five specs that decide your selection
Buyers who skip this checklist end up with film that prints off-register, tears on the converting line, or fails a brand’s compliance audit. Lock these five before you request a quote.
1 · Basis weight (GSM)
GSM (grams per square meter) sets the film’s weight and, with the resin recipe, its hand feel and cost. For baby diapers, lightweight designs commonly run 18–22 g/m², while mainstream, higher-absorbency styles often use 22–26 g/m². Across hygiene film generally, the working bands are roughly 16–22 g (thin, soft), 22–28 g (balanced, most common), and 28–35 g (tough, high leak resistance). A lighter grade lowers material cost; a heavier grade survives higher line speeds and heavier liquid loads.
2 · Breathability (WVTR)
Water vapor transmission rate measures how fast vapor escapes. Higher WVTR keeps skin drier, but pushing it too far with oversized pores undermines leak resistance. Buyers typically set a floor such as ≥2000 g/(m²·24h) and name the test method, so both sides quote the same number. XINGQI runs WVTR testing in its own laboratory and tunes the stretching ratio to hit the target.
3 · Hydrostatic pressure (leak resistance)
Hydrostatic pressure is the safety floor of a back sheet: it measures how much liquid pressure the film resists before leaking. A high WVTR paired with too low a hydrostatic value is the single most common cause of field leaks. Specify a minimum hydrostatic pressure and test the laminated film, because heat-lamination can compress the micropores and change the real result.
4 · Tensile strength and elongation
Converting lines pull film at high speed. MD strength and elongation tell you whether the roll survives slitting, printing, and elastic application without breaking, which directly drives your scrap rate. XINGQI’s proven 14 g/m² positioning-cut grade delivers 12 N MD strength at 120% MD elongation, and reduces waste by roughly 10 pieces per roll change against ordinary film.
5 · Print and positioning cut
If your diaper carries printed graphics, the film must hold accurate, registered print. XINGQI runs 13 fully servo satellite flexographic presses plus 4 gravure presses at up to 500 m/min with 8-color matching and online defect detection, using film-grade ink that resists rub-off. Its positioning-cut technology is the differentiator most competitors cannot match:
- AB version prints two completely different patterns, in four colors, in one continuous run.
- ABCDE version produces five completely different patterns during one positioning-cut run, so a single film grade feeds several SKUs.
- Up to 6 colors are available, printed with food-grade water-based ink that carries no odor and no fluorescent agents, removing the residual urine-pants smell that end users notice first.
6 · Compliance (OEKO-TEX100 and beyond)
Skin-contact film for babies must clear chemical-safety barriers. XINGQI holds OEKO-TEX Standard 100 (2026), ISO 9001 (2017), and High-Tech Enterprise status (2022). For private label and brand owners selling into the EU, North America, and the Middle East, OEKO-TEX100 is the trust signal buyers now screen for first.
Specification table: what to confirm before you quote
Send this table to any supplier and compare answers side by side. Suppliers who cannot fill it with real numbers are guessing, and guessing on a baby-product back sheet is a recall risk.
| Parameter | Why it matters | Typical target | XINGQI capability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basis weight (GSM) | Weight, cost, hand feel | 18–26 g for baby diapers | Custom per tier; 14 g/m² positioning-cut grade proven |
| Breathability (WVTR) | Skin comfort, rash control | Set a floor, e.g. ≥2000 g/(m²·24h) | Tuned via stretching ratio; tested in own lab |
| Hydrostatic pressure | Leak resistance (safety floor) | Set a minimum per product | Balanced against WVTR; test after lamination |
| MD tensile / elongation | Survives high-speed converting | Match your line speed | 12 N / 120% at 14 g/m² |
| Print colors | Brand graphics | Per artwork | Up to 6 colors, positioning cut, AB / ABCDE |
| Ink safety | End-user odor and skin | No odor, no fluorescent agent | Food-grade water-based ink |
| Lamination | Real-world performance | Nonwoven up to 1.4 m wide | Centered or full composite, computer-controlled glue |
| OEKO-TEX100 | Chemical-safety compliance | Required for EU / NA / MENA | Certified 2026 |

Supplier capacity checklist
Specs mean nothing if the plant cannot deliver them at volume and consistency. Walk this checklist before signing.
Common mistakes buyers make
- Buying on price per kilogram alone. A cheaper film that wastes 10 more pieces per roll change and fails print registration costs more on the converting line.
- Maximizing breathability and forgetting leak resistance. WVTR and hydrostatic pressure pull against each other; optimize the pair, not one number.
- Testing only the bare film. Heat-lamination compresses the micropores, so the laminated film’s WVTR and hydrostatic pressure are what your customer actually experiences. Always test after lamination.
- Skipping the sample run. Get free samples, run WVTR, tensile, odor, and print checks on a trial roll before a bulk order.
- Ignoring compliance paperwork. For EU and North American retail, OEKO-TEX100 is often a hard gate. Confirm the certificate number and scope.
How XINGQI produces to your specification
The path from raw material to your roll is controlled end to end, which is why GSM, WVTR, and tensile can be tuned to a buyer’s spec instead of a fixed catalog grade.
- Granulation of calcium carbonate and polyethylene, weighed by a loss-in-weight scale at 0.5% accuracy.
- Film extrusion through the automatic die head, with online thickness measurement.
- Stretching at differential speeds to form micropores at the ratio your WVTR and tensile targets require.
- Printing on fully servo flexographic lines at up to 500 m/min, 8 colors, with online defect detection.
- Slitting and rewinding on 13 slitting lines with electrostatic elimination and 8 high-speed rewinders, two with positioning-perimeter detection.
